Why our childood experiences follow us in our adult life

I sometimes wonder, if there are other people out there, who have experienced what I have experienced in my child hood? Why did these things happen?Why do I have these uncontrollable thoughts that I wish would get out of my head? I want to hear from other people out there. I want to know I am not alone..
